ADHD Assessments at Psychotherapy Matters

We offer comprehensive ADHD assessments designed to evaluate and diagnose Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adolescents and adults. Our goal is to provide clarity and tailored support to help you better understand your experiences and explore effective treatment options.

Getting started with Psychotherapy Matters

We understand that navigating the traditional mental health system can feel overwhelming—long wait times to see a psychiatrist, numerous medication options, and a variety of psychotherapy approaches can make it difficult to know where to begin. You deserve compassionate, accessible care that gets you moving forward. That’s where we come in.

Psychotherapy Matters was founded to create a new model of mental health care—one that is accessible, collaborative, and tailored to your needs. Our approach makes it easy to connect with your therapist who works closely with psychiatrists, ensuring you receive comprehensive care.

Our Virtual Collaboration Model

Our clinic operates as a Virtual Collaboration. This means your psychiatric consultation is conducted via secure video conferencing, with your psychiatrist participating remotely. During your session, your therapist will be present in the room or online with you, facilitating a team-based approach designed to support your mental health journey.

What is a Comprehensive Assessment for ADHD?

Our Comprehensive ADHD Assessment goes beyond simply identifying symptoms. It gathers information from multiple sources and evaluates various areas of your functioning—such as mood, anxiety, relationships, and substance use—that may impact your overall well-being and daily life.

Think of it this way: if symptoms resemble a duck’s quack, but the root cause is different (like a swan), our assessment aims to uncover the full picture. Sometimes, attention difficulties are linked to other conditions, such as depression, anxiety, OCD, or burnout, or a combination of these factors. Our goal is to provide you with a thorough understanding of your unique situation.

What to Expect During the Assessment

1) Initial Screening:

You will schedule a 50min. session with your therapist, who will review your personal history (family, education, employment) and administer a self-report questionnaire. After your appointment, you will receive and complete the following forms via email:

  • ADHD Matters Intake Form
  • ADHD Matters Self-Assessment Questionnaire
  • Program Consent Form
  • Collateral Information for Assessment
  • Referral and Psychiatric Consultation Request Forms

2) Assessment Appointment:

Once all forms are submitted and payment is received, a 2-hour appointment will be scheduled with both your therapist and psychiatrist. This session takes place in your therapist’s office or via a secure video platform, with your therapist present to support you throughout the process.

During this session, the psychiatrist will speak with you directly, exploring your experiences in depth to understand your challenges beyond a checklist of symptoms. Our comprehensive approach aims to capture your story in your own words for an accurate diagnosis.

3) Follow-Up & Report:

After the appointment, the psychiatrist will prepare a detailed psychological assessment report, including:

  • Diagnoses based on DSM criteria
  • Evidence-based treatment recommendations
  • Copies of the report will be shared with you and your family doctor to guide your next steps.

How much does a Comprehensive Assessment for ADHD cost?

  • Psychotherapy Matters Fee: $350
  • Therapist Fee: $540
